Hello! My name is Julia Métraux. I'm currently a fellow at Mother Jones. My LinkedIn with my work history can be found here. You can also subscribe to my monthly free newsletter with journalism updates. I am also currently looking for my next job.

My Mother Jones email is jmetraux@motherjones.com. I always appreciate hearing story ideas but am not able to respond to every inquiry. For non-Mother Jones related work, email me at juliametraux@gmail.com. I'm open for article assignments, so editors, please reach out!

I have been awarded fellowships with Solutions Journalism Network and National Press Foundation. In 2023, I also won the second place Gary Corcoran Student Prize for Excellence in Reporting on Disability.

Before finishing my master's degree at UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism in May 2023, I was a part-time reporter at Richmond Pulse/Contra Costa Pulse, a regular contributor to Everyday Health, a blogger for JSTOR Daily, an editorial intern at DAME Magazine, a regular contributor to Verywell Health, and a contributing editor/editorial assistant at Narratively.

My freelance work has been published in Allure, Bitch Media, Business Insider, California Health Report, Discover, Fortune, Gizmodo, Healthline, Health.com, MindSite News, Poynter, Rewire News Group, SFGate, Stat News, and other places.

I've also done copyrighting work for AHIMA Foundation

Some fun facts about me:

1. I'm bilingual! I speak English and French

2. I love writing about a wide range of topics – some of my main beats are disability, chronic illness and mental health.
